"Who would sign something like that?" - US President Trump criticizes his own 2020 trade agreement

US President Donald Trump plans to introduce a 25 percent tariff on products from Canada and Mexico next week. At the same time, he surprisingly criticized his own trade agreement.
US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that tariffs of 25 percent will be imposed on products from Canada and Mexico starting next week. Huff Post reports that Trump unexpectedly criticized his own trade agreement, the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which he signed in 2020.
"I look at some of these agreements and I ask myself, 'Who would sign something like that?'" Trump said. Despite this statement, he had previously praised the agreement as "the best we've ever done." The 2020 agreement was intended as a replacement for the North American Free Trade Agreement , which Trump sharply criticized during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump praises tariffs, experts see risksAccording to Huff Post, Trump promised that the new tariffs would make the US "very rich" and would be "very good for the country." However, economic experts warn of negative consequences of the tariffs for American consumers. They fear that prices for many products could rise.
